Staff Accountant

The staff accountant-forensic is responsible for conducting financial investigations and providing financial expertise to support legal proceedings, dispute resolutions, or fraud-related matters. The role requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, analytical skills, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct financial investigations: Perform comprehensive analysis of financial records, documents, and transactions to identify any irregularities, inconsistencies, or potential fraud. Ensure adherence to legal and regulatory requirements during investigations.
  • Examine financial statements: Review financial statements to identify any inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or potentially fraudulent activities. Analyze financial data to provide insights and evidence related to financial disputes or legal proceedings.
  • Perform data analysis: Utilize various analysis tools and software to assess large volumes of financial data, identify patterns, trends, and anomalies in financial records, and uncover potentially fraudulent activities.
  • Assist in legal proceedings: Collaborate with legal teams, attorneys, and clients to provide expert support in legal proceedings such as litigation, arbitration, and fraud investigations. Assist in preparing financial reports, exhibits, and presentations for court proceedings.
  • Offer consultancy and risk assessment: Advise organizations on best practices for preventing and detecting financial fraud. Assess risks and internal controls related to financial processes, identifying vulnerabilities and suggesting improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with other departments, including legal, compliance, internal audit, and external auditors, to gather information, exchange findings, and ensure comprehensive investigation and reporting.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
  •  Expertise in applying accounting principles, financial analysis, and data interpretation to identify irregularities, inconsistencies, and fraudulent activities.
  • Proficiency in using Word, Excel, Quicken and Quickbooks
  •  Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to detect and investigate discrepancies in financial records.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities, with the capacity to draw logical conclusions from complex financial data.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial concepts effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity while handling sensitive financial and legal information.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific forensic accounting practices, methodologies, and tools is an asset.
